The Challenge

This collaborative robotic gripper needs to handle shrink wrapped packs of plastic beverage bottles, accommodating voids without stretching the shrink wrap. The dual zone tool must be lightweight to allow maximum payload for the bottle packs.Image

THE SOLUTION

The results were great. Consistently picking product, even if there were rips or a tear in the shrink. Admittedly we were nervous seeing these cases, but it continued to work. We really only had two missed picks and that was due to one of the two cases getting caught or pushed out of alignment too far. Our team overall was very impressed with the ability for the tool to work despite occasional misalignment and shrink damage. On a purchased system, there would need to be some roller guides to assist the cases in not getting out of shape.
